How to Change the Text of the START Menu in Windows XP


Are you really interested in customizing the text of the "start" button located in your taskbar? If so, what are you waiting for? Just do it! But is it really as simple as mentioned above? Well, the answer is of course! In order to carry out this task, you only need a special utility software named "Resource Hacker".

Once you are ready with this software, install it and follow the steps shown:

1. Open the file named explorer.exe from the Windows installation folder (usually C: Windows).

2. As soon as you open this file, the left side of this software shows you hierarchical folders.

3. Just browse the folders.

4. Once this process is complete, it's time to take a closer look at this folder. Here you will discover a tab labeled "1033". Just click on it.

5. The right side of the resource hijacker will show you a prolific text. But the only thing you need to do is find the text "start". Now, when you have discovered this text, what are you waiting for? Just replace it with your desired text.

6. Now, just click on the button named "compilation script". And you are ready to use your new custom application. Here you have to take into account that you are about to replace the current "explorer.exe" application.

7. Save this application as "explorer1.exe" in the default Windows folder.

8. Now, simply open the run command or the command prompt and type the command "regedit.exe".

9. The window that appears in front of you is the Registry Editor for Windows. Just browse the folders

HKEY_LOCAL_NACHINE <SOFTWARE> Microsoft &lt;Windows NT &lt;Current Version &lt;&quot;Winlogon&quot;.

10. By clicking on Winlogon, you will come across the field named "Shell". Just click on this field and change its value from "explorer.exe" to "explorer1.exe".

11. Now restart your computer and you will discover the text of your choice in the taskbar instead of the traditional "start".
