There has always been a lot of debate as to which snake holds the record of being the biggest snake. The anacondas have more often been considered the largest snake due to its enormous dimensions. It is the biggest snake also because of its mass and weight. The other larger snake that comes closest to it is the Asian Reticulated Python or scientifically known as the Reticulated Python.
The anacondas of the jungles of South America are considered larger than the Python snake. The debate over the largest anaconda found has not yet been resolved by the crypto-zoologist or zoologists. However, be aware that an adult anaconda snake can easily kill a tiger or crocodile.
Green anacondas, also known as water boas, are considered to be the largest and heaviest snakes in the world. The largest snakes of these species can grow up to 11 meters in length and weigh up to 500 kilograms. The green anaconda, believed to be the largest snake found, is dark green in color with black oval spots on the back.
This dull pattern makes it easy for the snake to blend in with the moist, dense vegetation of its habitat. The sides have similar spots with yellow centers. There have been plenty of stories that the taller Anaconda is likely to be over 40 feet tall, but such stories and reports have yet to be proven. Specimens over 35 feet have never been captured.
Anacondas of such a huge size are called cryptids. Anacondas of such length are extremely rare to see. Instead, stories of such large anacondas devouring animals and humans are found more in movies and stories, but in real life they are probably extremely rare.
European colonizers and explorers as well as natives reportedly first saw the largest anaconda measuring up to 18 meters in length in the dense jungles of South America. The Wildlife Conservation Society at the turn of the 20th century offered a large cash award for the delivery of any (live) snake 30 feet or more in length.
The prize has never been claimed despite numerous reports and sightings of giant anacondas. There have also been several investigations carried out in Brazil, but the ones found do not come close to the claims of the largest anaconda found.
There have been several allegations regarding the largest anaconda found. An oil shipment to Colombia in 1944 claimed to have measured a 37.5-foot-long anaconda. A scientist named Vincent Roth claimed he shot a 34-foot-long Anaconda. Percy Faucett, an adventurer made a big claim.
The largest Anaconda found by him measured 62 feet from nose to tail. Faucett claimed he shot the Anaconda. A historian named Mike Dash has been severely criticized by critics because he said he sighted Anacondas ranging from 100 to 150 feet. Mike Dash supported his arguments using pictures but unfortunately the pictures do not have a scale. There have been so many claims and counter claims that it is difficult to determine the larger Anaconda snakes that have been sighted. It can range from over 30 feet to 150 feet.
