As a student at the University of West Florida, I often eat in the restaurants on campus. My first year, I had the displeasure of having a meal plan. Where I was forced to eat 12 meals a week at the Nautilus Market, an all-you-can-eat option. In addition, I had to spend $ 300 at another provider on campus. It was necessary and too expensive. I propose that the University of West Florida offer students better dining options on campus.
Currently, there are 11 places to eat on campus. However, four of them are just take away coffees. I would not consider them viable options. These cafes are good in their places. They are in specific buildings such as the business building and the library. These are good options if you are in a hurry.
Where UWF Dining really needs help, it's in the commons. We have the Nautilus Market, an option that is primarily for first-year students and students with meal plans. They give a lot of options, however, they are not good. The food literally made me sick several times. In addition, the only healthy / vegan / vegetarian options are salads. Personally, I think the salad tastes like being sprayed with preservatives. In addition, in the communes, there is a Quiznos; It's ok if you like Quiznos. The chick-n-grill should not even be considered a restaurant because it is tasteless. It's a chipotle wants to be, and it fails. The Argo Galley is good. They have beer and wine. Their food is the basic food bar but overpriced.
I did research on the other schools' restaurants and what I found was disappointing. The University of Florida has channel options all around its campus. They have Panda Express, Einstein Bagels and Moe's Southwest Grill; FSU has more! It could be argued that these theses constitute a much larger school and constitute division 1 in athletics. However, even other D2 schools in Florida, such as Nova SouthEastern, Barry, Flagler and the University of North Florida, all offer better dining options than UWF. Nova has a subway, an Au Bon Pain and an Eisenstein Bagels. The UNF has a Jamba juice, a very popular fast chicken joint and a pita pit. Just introducing a pit pit could create a world of difference. The local Pit Pit is always busy at lunch time, which could entice more students to stay and eat on campus.
The University of West Florida needs to intensify its restoration activities. Food is a necessity and if the students are not happy, this could be a determining factor for which school they choose to go to.
